Short Biography

Jirí Hrebícek (1947), graduated from Faculty of Science of Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic) in 1970 with a degree in mathematics. He worked for the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for more than 20 years, being engaged in computational sciences and engineering of environmental problems. He received habilitation at Brno University of Technology in 1989 with a thesis on numerical computational methods. Since 1991 he has taught at Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno, where he was appointed as an Associated Professor (1996) and as a Professor of Information Systems (1998). Since 1994 he has lectured at Masaryk University, being also the Director for Science and Education at Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses and guaranteeing the study program Computational Biology. During the last decade he has been specializing in development and implementation of information systems for eGovernment services in the environmental sector. He has published ten books in five languages (seven were published by Springer Verlag), 80 papers in national as well as international scientific journals, more than 300 papers in conference and workshop proceedings and more than 150 research reports. He is the founder of Czech Group for Environmental Informatics of the Czech Society for Cybernetics and Informatics.
