Short Biography: Arno Scharl is a Professor of New Media and Knowledge Management at Graz University of Technology’s Knowledge Management Institute (kmi.tugraz.at), and a Key Researcher at the Know-Center, the Austrian K+ Competence Center for Knowledge Management. Between 2003 and 2005, Scharl was a Professor of Information Systems at the University of Western Australia, following visiting appointments with the University of California at Berkeley, and with Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Western Australia. He completed his MBA, doctoral research, and habilitation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Additionally, he holds a PhD and MSc from the University of Vienna, Department of Sports Physiology. Scharl is co-founder of the ECOresearch Network and Co-Chair of the 20th International Conference on Informatics for Environmental Protection. Author of more than 90 refereed publications, his research and teaching interests focus on knowledge acquisition, the integration of semantic and geospatial technology, computer-mediated collaboration, new working environments, ontology learning, and the various aspects of environmental online communication.
